    We are currently looking for an Underwriter Assistant to join the growing team!

    Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Rates business according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines within individual underwriting authority limits, and ensures standards for timeliness are met.
    • Develops on-going relationships with agents, monitors profitability and quality of submissions, and keeps agent up-to-date with underwriting and/or product changes.
    • Examines documents such as application forms, inspection reports, insurance maps and past claims to determine the degree of risk from such factors as applicant financial standing, business operations, loss experience, and value and condition of property, inventory, and equipment.
    • Establishes the types and limits of coverage to be provided.
    • Determines if reinsurance is needed and facilitates the reinsurance of policy when risk requires.
    • Calculates standard rates and premium charges by using approved formulas and tables.
    • Consults with field representatives, insurance agents, or brokers and other insurance or inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies.

    Essential Skills and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or two years related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Knowledge of commercial lines products
    • Ability to handle more complex accounts with some guidance from Underwriter
    • Commitment to an on-going course of study leading up to achieving required designations necessary to become a broker
    • Previous rating and computer experience helpful
    • Leadership Qualities: the ability to lead others and get results through others
    • Problem analysis, resolution with the ability to multi-task
    • Strong customer orientation, excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are limited to the following:

    • Review related supporting documentation for accuracy.
    • Efficiently process the needed insurance document from various company software based on task chosen (i.e. Binder, Policy, Endorsement, Inspection Report).
    • If a discrepancy is found, properly QA with a thorough explanation.
    • Perform effective internal and external communication via email and phone correspondence.
    • Handle escalated issues and follow-up on outstanding issues promptly.
    • Maintain/exceed the daily task goals given.

    Essential Skills and Experience:

    • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)
    • Strong customer orientation, excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Team player with a commitment to company values
    • Analytical and detail oriented; capable of multi-tasking.
    • Ability to cross-train within multiple operational functions
    • Basic Insurance Knowledge is a plus
